Haley gets the ‘boot’, hubby is forlorn, now what?

Do we sit by and watch Howard Stern talk up votefortheworst.com and between them vote in Sanjaya as the next American Idol? While he did a mediocre performance at best last night, (c’mon now admit it, the guy stinks and he was just less stinky, he does not posses the talent to be the next Carrie Underwood, or Kelli Clarkson) are we doomed to watch those more talented then him get the boot each week while he just grins that grin and moves closer to the prize? Admittedly, Phil could have gone this week as easily as Haley without a blip on the radar, they lack the same talent Sanjaya lacks, but day-um, he wasn’t even in the bottom three for the second or third week in a row! I am almost ready to give up on this show.

I became addicted to The Deadliest Catch on my flight from San Francisco to New York a couple of weeks ago, and watched more on the return flight. Now, me and the lone kid at home watch it together. I also enjoy Gene Simmons Family Jewels. They are one of the most balanced families on TV, hell in reality. The kids are great and while Gene can be a hound dog (he pretends to be anyway) Shannon is a doll and a fab mom and wife.
And this from a person who does not watch television except for A&E and Discovery. Go figure.

I couldn’t help but watch the Sopranos and Entourage Sunday, hubby is addicted. Oh, and the Tudors. Problem there is while everyone is pretty it’s historically inaccurate as far as which players marry whom and when. It’s frustrating for me.

I’m anxiously waiting the new season of Rescue Me and Dexter. Does anyone know when they come back?

Geez, I just reread what I wrote and I guess I am watching more television then I thought. It doesn’t feel like it though. But when I think about it, there is some good stuff on the boob tube.

What do you watch?

I love Deadliest Catch. I like to root for the Hansen brothers on the Northwestern. Beyond that the only new shows I watch with any regularity are NCIS (or House, if NCIS is one I’ve seen) and Criminal Minds. Since I mostly write at night, I catch reruns of CSI: Miami and Crossing Jordan during the day.

  2. LaDonna

Karin, I’m with you on the fizzle-factor. Since Howard’s mass appeal to vote for the worst, it’s lost some of its appeal. I still watch, though. Once you start, hard to quit. My vote’s for Blake, I think.

I buy the 24 series, and that’s my fav. The Unit is cool, something hubby and I try to catch. I enjoy the old Gillmore Girls shows too. And, of course, Discovery channel, History, and National Geo.

  3. Amie

I was very disappointed in the Sopranos season opener–it was nearly a snoooze fest. I like the Tudors though and the good thing about shows like that is I can catch them On Demand.

I’m really looking forward to Drive! Sunday night 2 hour season premiere! And Painkiller Jane starts this friday (SciFi channel). And Heros is back in just over a week! Sheesh it’s a wonder I get any writing done. I’m ready for The Closer and Psych to come back on too.

  4. Edie Ramer

I’m not thrilled about this year’s AI. My emotions aren’t invested with any of the contestants.

I watch MEDIUM, BOSTON LEGAL, and I love THE RICHES. The acting in that show is fabulous. I agree with Amie, DRIVE sounds like it might be fun–although it’s opposite DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, which I still love. HEROES is coming back soon. Yay! And that’s about it.

  5. Hubby

With Haley gone, Sanjaya just became the best looking girl on the show.

  6. Cele

I’m truly worried about your hubby Karin. He just gave me shivers, and I only hold back having him notice Jordin because she is under 18.

I refuse to let Vote For The Worst win by turning me away. There are a few things that I know. If they are worthy of a singing contract will get one. Eight members of season five have now signed recording contracts. Five people from season two have contracts – Carmen Rassmusen just signed a contract last week with a Nashville label. If they are worthy they will be recognized. The Sanjaya’s of the world may falsely win at somethings but (and I feel sorry for him) if he wins he will fall fast, flat, and hard on his face. Vote For The Worst is doing him no favors.

I like NCIS and it is hard to flip back and forth between the two shows. But I know I can catch reruns during the summer. Well that is until Big Brother comes on. The only other show I watch is Dancing and Ghost Whisper. I haven’t even been watching General Hospital lately. What, someone take my pulse quick.

  7. Amanda

I refuse to watch AI until Sanjaya is gone. If he wins, like Simon, I’m outta here. LOL Can’t wait for Heroes to be back on. I really enjoy Jericho and Lost. Never miss CSI even if I have to watch it On Demand.

  8. Karin

Me too, B.E. Capt Sig is a pro. I like the Cornelia Marie too.

  9. Karin

LaDonna, Hubby likes the Unit. I do to but it conflicts with AI. I was quite shocked when hubby recorded it this week so he could watch AI. Hmmm, I wonder if boots had anything to do with that decision?
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the Gilmore Girls. I know Edie is a big fan.

Hey Amie, I don’t know who the hell is writing for the Sopranos these days but that episode when Tony kept dreaming? I wanted to scream. Of course, for me, I am rubbing my hands in anticipation awaiting the episode where all of the Sopranos get their due. From day one I have not been able to cheer for any of those thugs.

  10. Karin

Edie, I used to be a Medium addict, but damn, I seem to miss it these days. What is Drive you and
    Amie are talking about?

Cele, hubby has some anger issue toward Sanjaya. He not only doesn’t care for the kid (hasn’t from day one) but he is quite incensed he is still there. I have gotten over it (sorta), but I hope you’re right, the good ones will get their contracts. I suppose this will change the voting procedure next year.

  11. Karin

Amanda? Did Simon say he would not come back next year if Sanjaya won? Hmm, well as Paula has repeatedly said, “Simon *is* the show.” If Sanjaya wins Simon will be back albeit with new voting rules. I bet they will resemble Dancing’s. Judges get half vote the public the other half.

  12. Poppy

He said it, but some exec says he’s contractually obligated to come back

  13. Amie

Edie…I forgot The Riches which I think is freaking brilliant! 😀

  14. Amie

Karin Drive is a new show that premieres on Fox on Sunday–2 hours. It’s about a group of people participating in an illegal cross country race for various reasons (abusive husbands/kidnapped wives etc). They guy from Firefly is in it 😀

Sopranos–not sure which episode you mean. The coma? I think it’s a lot like The Riches which you might not dig if you don’t like the Sopranos because the characters are very morally ambiguous (sp?) -but from a writer’s standpoint I think it’s great. I feel the same about the S’s but that season opener STUNK!

  15. Cele

I think going to voting like they have on Dancing is the answer. Not only do the judges get half the voting power (as it should be) but viewer voting is limited in the amount of times you can vote.

“You get 11 votes, make them count.”

I don’t know if that number changes weekly to reflect one less than the number of contestants but it is a great moderator.

And I’m with Hubby, Sanjaya’s been on my last nerve since Hollywood Week.

  16. HollyD

Karin, I love Deadliest Catch. I cried the other night when the bodies were discovered. I also watch CSI and NCIS. The family also loves Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs w/ Mike Rowe. Mike does the voiceover for Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch, and American Chopper.

  17. Elisabeth

I’ve become addicted to the shows my DH watches because they’re one when I’m checking email and blogs in the evening, gearing up to write.

I like House – although he’s an ass. He’s an entertaining ass, though. 😉 I’m also addicted to Friday Night Lights – never saw the movie, but I love Kyle Chandler…and it’s football. Whod doesn’t love football??? I’m also anxiously awaiting Rescue Me with you, Karin. Denis Leary is fabulous, and I love that show.

  18. Karin

Eli, I like FNL’s too. I started to watch last night, but got side tracked. I saw where she told him she was preggers. I think I heard hubby say they won. Did they? And is he still going to TMU?

Holly, Mike Rowe has a fabulous voice. I love his narration. Is American Chopper the one with the Tuttles?

  19. Karin

Gotcha Amie, I’ve seen the trailers for Drive. It looks good.

Cele, methinks Idol will have to go the way of Dancing in the scoring department. Limiting the amount of calls from a single number is crucial. Maybe they should just allow one vote per number?

  20. HollyD

    Karin,
Yes it is. God they are crazy, but the bikes are beautiful. Mike Rowe definately has a great voice.

  21. Stacey Netzel

No Grey’s fans out there? I love it, but am getting a bit bored with all the reruns in between a new show here or there.

Love Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, but can’t seem to find new episodes of them either. Heroes is good, and fell in love with Bones and David Boreanz’s sexy, sarcastic Booth this fall.

As for DWTS, nothings been the same since Drew Lachey. God, I fell hard for that man (don’t tell my hubby.) Well, he may know. Here I was watching the other night, doing e-mails at the same time, and I hear the song “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy.” Instant reminder of Drew and then he came out half way through. I jumped out of my computer chair and hollered, “Whoo Hoo, there’s my man!” In the other room, DH was like, “What? Who?”

That said, I was with you Karin–wanted to hate Heather, but have been very impressed with her dancing. Actually developed some respect for her, too. Other faves are Apollo and Ian and Laila. Glad to see Leeza go–she bored me.

    Sorry for the book! Stacey
