Here is what Hilary had to say: First place. I would like to see this one. I liked the direct style, the way the author stayed in the moment and drew me in without tipping off the plot. It’s clear from the beginning who the hero and heroine are, but not what’s going to happen next, which made me want to read more.

Congrats Donna!!!! I’m very excited for you. Good luck with Hilary! (I’ll firm up the details with her on how she wants to proceed)

LaDonna’s RUBY’S DAUGHTER came in second. Hilary would like to see more of her story as well. Congrats, LaDonna!!!

LaDonna, and remaining finalists, I’ll email you Hilary’s comments. Congratulations to all of you for finaling, and I wish you all the best of luck with theses stories!

As for AI, I almost missed it! I had an event at my house last night (hey who knew it would conflict with the AI finale?). Anyway, you should have seen us gals last night trying on clothes and watching AI. At the bewitching hour everything stopped and we watched the moment of truth. I was happy for Jordin, and you could tell Blake was equally as happy for her. He’s a good kid. I wish him well.

Okay, so guess what I have waiting for me? A garage that needs some TLC. Grrrr…I think I’m going to wait until this weekend. Speaking of the holiday weekend, what are y’all doing?

  1. Cele

Congrat Donna, and La Donna too.

AI – I got mad about half way through the show. The duets and medelies drive me crazy. Then Clive Davis started speaking, excuse me the only thing platinum about Taylor Hicks is his hair. His Album FINALLY reached gold having sold 680,000 copies US, but he’s far from platinum. I was so mad I went on the internet and inadvertantly discovered 25 minutes early that Jordin had won. So I listened for the rest of the time with one ear until the end, and surfed.

Radio doesn’t have three day, holiday weekends (insert a halo icon here)so I will be working Monday (an abrevaited shift at least) good luck on that garage.

  2. Edie

Woohoo!!!! Congratulations, Donna and LaDonna. I hope Hilary wants to buy both your books!

  3. LaDonna

OHMYGOD, HOLIE MOLIE!!!! Congrats, Donna, and wow, I’m still reeling. Thanks so much, Karin, ya know how I feel about ya. And WOW, that’s all I say. OH, and Hilary, thank you so much for judging and taking the time to crit. I’m verra excited!

  4. Hubby

Baby, your good Karma bank account must be over flowing. Great job in helping two other writers get closer to their dream. Congrats ladies!

  5. Karin

Cele, I have to admit, I felt like I didn’t miss much of the finale show. From your description, I didn’t. Taylor has sold 680K records? Was Clive blowing smoke up our…?

What kind of radio do you do? Do you have a show? A slot? Are you funnee?

  6. LaDonna

Thanks, Karin’s hubby! You know it. Karin could live off the interest of that Karma account for the rest of her life if she wants. LOL.

  7. Karin

Edie, I woudl be thirlled if Hilary bought one of the First Line entries.

LaDonna, are you excited? I can’t tell.

  8. Karin

Hey, babe, it feels real good.

  9. LaDonna

LOL, Karin. If I were anymore excited, they’d have to make the movie!

  10. Stacey Netzel

Considering Donna K is my critique partner, and my anthology partner for a recent sale to The Wild Rose Press, I can’t be anything but happy for her! Congratulations Donna! Finally a first place! Can’t think of a better place to get it.

LaDonna, I’m even happy for you that you’re not the caboose. LOL. And I swear on my writing career I’m not just saying that. No smoke blowing here.

Thanks for a great ride, Karin. It was so great that I’m not getting off the train even though the contest is over. Your fun site (and yes, I’ll admit–the amazing body in the top left corner) will keep me coming back for more.

  11. LaDonna

LOL, Stacey! I dinna want to be the caboose again! You can call me the little chugga chugga this time.

  12. Edie

I liked Taylor’s song. I guess everyone has different tastes.

And every finalist is a winner in your contest with critiques from Hilary. That’s awesome.

  13. Karin

Edie, I like Taylor. I voted for him! But I haven’t heard diddly so I thought it was odd he’s sold so many records.

  14. Cele

Edie, I thought Taylor’s part of the Beatle’s medley fit him well, he was one of the better parts of that performance.

My problem was with Clive’s comments that Taylor had hit platinum. It is a fact so VERY easily checked, I don’t understand the (at best) misrepresentation of the truth. Also if Taylor had hit sales of 1 million – it would have just happened – they would have awarded him his platinum on the show, they did it to Kelly in year two and Carrie last night. If you want to check the numbers check out the chart listings on Billboard dot com, the RIAA’s website, or even Wikipedia will have much of the info.

Taylor has a great voice and personna, what he needs is to get out from under the Entertainment 19 thumb and spread his wings.

Karin, I sadly am not funny. I wish I was. I have been in radio for 17 years (third career) and am blessed with a love of music, a good voice, and a love of researching music facts – news – gossip. My big production for the year, on air, is the Rhododendron Festival’s Grand Floral parade. A two hour broadcast at noon on the third Sunday of May. Other than that, it is small town radio, three newscast – noon – five – and sixpm, and three and half hours live, five voice trakked.

  15. Donna Kowalczyk

Okay, I’m done freaking out…WooHoo!! I can’t believe I got first place!! Thank you so much Karin for this incredible opportunity, and to Ms. Sares for her wonderful comments! And thank you Hubby!! My own asked how this good news would benefit him…LOL

Congratulations, LaDonna, for also getting a request, how awesome! Hope it results in a sale! Believe me, I’m almost ALWAYS the caboose, so that’s what I was expecting…LOL

And thank you Stacey (although this is my second first place…LOL), great plug on the anthology. 😉 Congrats to everyone, what a ride this has been!!

  16. J. Carson Black

Congrats, Donna, on first place! And to LaDonna for also being asked for more. What a wonderful outcome for you both – and like AI, I’m sure many of the runner-ups will do just fine re. contracts. There’s a lot of talent around here, Karin, and you’ve tapped it nicely.

You deserve a huge cyber bouquet of red roses for all the good you’ve done your fellow writers. Actually, you deserve a real bouquet, which I’m sure Officer Friendly can provide. Or something just as nice.

Glad Jordin won, Blake was (finally) growing on me, and I still miss Melinda like a sore tooth.

  17. Elisabeth Naughton

Big congrats to Donna & LaDonna! Way to go, ladies. I’m thrilled for you both. 🙂 Be sure to keep us updated on what happens with your subs.

Thanks again to Karin for the fun contest and to Hilary for the critique. I agree with Donna: it was a great ride. 😉

  18. raine

Had to step in and say congrats to Donna and LaDonna!
    WTG, ladies, yayyy!!!

  19. Edie

Cele, I was working in my office with the TV on in the guest bedroom next door during AI. I only came out to listen to the songs (and when they were boring, went back to my office, lol). When Clive was talking, I wasn’t listening, but I’ll take your word for it.

  20. Tracey

Well done Donna – that is fantastic news for you and I know exactly how you feel. And good luck with the request form Hilary.

LaDonna – girlfriend – what can I say that I haven’t already said to you in person. I’m so very please for you and have everything crossed that Hilary loves the rest too.

Karin – you my hero, and your hubby said it so right – your Karma bank must be bursting at the seams.

  21. Tracey

oooooh I forgot to say well done to the other finalist – you are all winners ladies. And so is anyone who entered.

  22. Donna Kowalczyk

Thank you everyone, I appreciate all your kind words. 🙂 Fingers and toes crossed that Ms. Sares ends up buying my ms! LaDonna’s too! 😉

  23. LaDonna

I agree, Donna! Thanks everyone for all the support and well wishes. It’s like a family when contest comes to a end. And you go, Donna! I like your fingers and toes crossed wish! LOL.

  24. Donna Kowalczyk

Hard to walk though…LOL Thanks LaDonna! Hopefully our Edie will make it to the final five next time. 🙂

  25. LaDonna

Donna, I LOVE our Edie, and I agree. Talent is oozing outta that gal!

  26. Karin

I’m not ignoring any of you, I just have sooo much to catch up on!

  27. Donna Kowalczyk

Absolutely! Edie has finaled in many contests, and it’s only a matter of time before she gets the CALL. 🙂 (We’re probably making her blush…LOL)

Karin, thanks again for everything. 🙂
