Titles Titles!!

September 17, 2007 | Karin's Blog | 27 comments

So here are my titles and release schedule for next year (and don’t laugh at the IS title, I fought the law and the law won)

WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE Anthology, Pocket Jan ’08
JADED, Pocket June ’08
KISS OF THE KNIGHT Book one The Blood Sword Legacy, Pocket July ’08
ITALIAN STALLIONS, Anthology, Kensington, July ’08
UNDERCOVER SANTA (working title), Pocket, November ’08

And did y’all notice after KISS OF THE KNIGHT there is the tag line The Blood Sword Legacy? That’s the title of the series!! i Iove love love it!! Back in the day a blood sword was a moniker plastered on mercenary knights who acquired land by killing. And each and every one of my Blood Sword knights is a bastard mercenary. And each of them will have their own book to tell their own story.

I’m so excited about this book, and so is my agent. I can not wait to get it into my editor’s hands.
So that’s kind of why I haven’t been around much, I must complete this book! So, I will be around, as in commenting on the blog, but not blog posting the rest of the week. I will however post this Friday over at Murder She Writes. So stop on by.

So, since I posted my titles, tell me what you think. I know ITALIAN STALLIONS is corny as hell, but do you think with a hunky torso cover and that title, ladies will pick it up wantin’ some salami to go with it? Hey, laugh with me here not at me.

Seriously though, what do you think of my titles? Oh, and Jake and hubby? Go for it.

Ciao

WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE is quite elegant, and much better than the original title: GOING COMMANDO.

The Blood Sword Legacy is also preferable to the original concept, which centered around a cadre of mercenary bastards (as opposed to bastard mercenaries) who grew up in an orchard, sparring, jousting, broadsword-wielding, maidenhead-chasing, ale-swilling, and orange-picking.

The Blood Orange Legacy just doesn’t have the same cache.

It’s early. Haven’t had my coffee yet. Best I can do.

  2. Edie

ROLF I hate to follow Jake. You’re right about IS. If I saw that in a store, I’d laugh and at least pick it up to read the blurb. How could I resist?

The other titles are all great. Love the Blood Sword Legacy. Very cool. I’m eager to read that book, so keep writing, Karin!

  3. Amanda

You are one busy girl for 2008. Remember to breathe somewhere in there. 🙂

IS is growing on me. A few more dozen times and I may like it. LOL

Congratulations on the fruits of your hard work. Enjoy!!

I think titles like IS work well for stuff like the Aphro books–think of the whole Brava “Bad Boys….” some of those are a bit …um…corny but i think people know what they’re getting. I”m very excited for you…and now I’m going to write.

  5. Karin

Jake, hubby does not want to play! He’s watching game film. B.O.R.I.N.G

Edie, IS is so–I dunno, ITALIAN STALLIONS!

Thanks, Amanda. Just keep saying ITALIAN STALLIONS, ITALIAN STALLIONS…

Hey, Amie, where have you been hiding? And the only reason I have not shot myself over the title is I realize it is a stroke of Aphrodesia genius. What you see is what you get, and who doesn’t want the Big Ragu?

  6. Hubby

Gee, I don’t know, who does want the Big Ragu, dear? Italian Stallion is growing on me too. Just look…

Karin, I’ve learned not to question the genius of the marketing folks re: titles and bookcovers. They usually know their business, though not always. I totally suck at titles so I let my publisher take on that task. Except for one book. Two psychics suggested I change that title, but it was too late.

  8. Allison Brennan

LOVE the historical title and BLOOD SWORN LEGACY. Powerful! My, but you have a busy year. You’ll have more books out than me!

Don’t you have the mass market version of SKIN being released next year as well? You should add that to your list.

I’m so thrilled for you and your schedule! Keep writing 🙂

  9. Karin

    Hubby, go to work.

LD, I’m glad you like the series title. I love it, my editor loves it and so does my agent. Now to do justice to it!

    Carol, were the psychics right???

    SWORDDDD, A, SWORDDDD
are you like messing with me again?
yes skin and good girl are supposed to release in mm.

  10. LaDonna

LOL, Karin, I love that you fought the law over IS. I say enjoy it, and you’re right. The big ragu can be enjoyed by all!

And I’m gaga over the Blood Sword Legacy title. Very cool, and I can’t wait to meet these bastards! YaHoo buckaroo!

  11. Cele

Wow you are a busy girl. I love the titles, Italian Stallions You’re writing a horse book?

  12. Amanda

    Or Hide the Salami? LOL

  13. J. Carson Black

And really good that they didn’t call it SHEATH OF THE STALLION.

  14. Karin

Yes, Cele, it is about horses. Big chested and well hung horses!

Hey, Jami, we just need to remember to keep smiling our big girl smiles, and mimick the Groucho shtick, “And would you like a salami with that?”

    Hey, funny, Amanda!

Jake, with all of this stallion talk and your comment I was reminded of a news bite I recently heard of some guy who went to a bestiality farm and go killed by a stallion. Whathcha think he was *up* to?

  15. Jami Alden

As Karin’s partner in crime for Italian Stallions, I want to make it clear that I DID NOT suggest that title. Oh well, at least they didn’t decide to call it “Spicy Italian Sausage,” or “Italian Man Meat”

  16. Donna Kowalczyk

Karin, I can’t wait to read The Blood Sword Legacy! I haven’t read a lot of historicals in recent years (they used to be all I read), but Kiss of the Knight sounds amazing! I LOVE stories involving knights…A Kingdom of Dreams (Judith McNaught) and Honour’s Splendor (Julie Garwood) are still my all-time favorite books. 🙂

IS? What can I say, I can’t get the image of Sly Stallone doing soft porn out of my head. So I’d definitely pick it up in the store. 😉

  17. Karin

Hey, Donna, I can’t wait to finish it and send it to NYC. I have a really good feeling about this one.

and lol about IS. I can’t get the image of Sly Stallone out of my mind either.

  18. Carol Davis Luce

Karin, how many books are you working on at one time? I am in total awe of your amazing productivity and your enegry! What’s your secret?

You asked if the psychics were right? Yes. To a certain degree. It was a numerology thing, and the numbers that made up the title did not bode well for success. It was my second novel. Sales on that novel were not as robust as sales on the first and third novel.

My favorite title is UNDERCOVER SANTA. It’s so visual.

  19. Karin

Carol, I read that one too! About the psychic right? Then you went dark!!! I was sooo frustrated!!

So are you telling me there was a third novel???

  20. J. Carson Black

Karin, Carol has FIVE novels – all of them excellent.

NIGHT STALKER, SKIN DEEP, NIGHT PREY, NIGHT PASSAGE, AND NIGHT GAMES. And I love the book she’s working on now!

    Jake

  21. Carol Davis Luce

Ahhh, Jake, you’re so sweet. You’d make a great PR manager. The check is in the mail.

  22. Carol Davis Luce

Karin, the one the two psychics had fits over the title was SKIN DEEP, my 2nd novel. It was about former beauty queens in SF, and yes, there was a psychic in the story.

  23. Karin

    5!!! i must find them.

ok the one i read had a psychic who lived in sparks or reno and she saw things on the tele.

  24. Tracey

Phew – I was going to call “Night’s Cold Kiss” “Kiss to the Night” – thank goodness I changed my mind.

As for the rest – they are cool (love the Blood Sword Legacy) as for IS – weeelllll – can’t help thinking of Rocky.

  25. Karin

Tracey title your book whatever you want to title it! There is room for all of us!!!!

  26. Mary

I am partial to the Italian Man Meat – that would make me pick up the book to see what it was about.

    Love all your title choices.

    Mar

  27. Tracey

That is very True Karin – but it is nice to be different too. Still hearing the Rocky theme playing every time for the Italian Stallions 😀
