The First 12 of 36

So what did you think?  My picks to make it from this group are of course Danny Gokey.

I’m hoping Anoop Dwag squeaks through, and of the girls, I like Alexis Grace.  I like the rough neck, but frankly don’t remember his name or what he sang, and the only other one that I remotely enjoyed was Ann Marie?  The tall brunette. She sang…um, she sang, it was a big song, oh, yes, Natural Woman.  Frankly, I liked it, and was surprised the judges didn’t.  Then there was that poor little girl, the real pretty one with thick brown hair?  I had to leave the room when she started to sing and make those funny faces.  I was embarrassed for her.  I really wanted her to do well. There was another girl who was so nervous her voice shook.  Can you imagine the pressure they’re under up there? Yikes!

A couple of weeks ago I taped five, one minute segments that aired on a local channel out here and I was nervous as hell.  If I had to sing?!  Well, maybe if I could sing it would be different, but dayum, I can see why so many just crash and burn on that AI stage.  I hate to see it, but if you’re gonna run with the big dawgs, you can’t stay on the porch.

So, dish, goils.  Who do you like to make this cut?  And if Tatiana makes it, I’ll shoot myself!

  1. Jane

Anoop is still my fave, but I really like Danny, too. Alexis was the best.

  2. Margaret

If Danny and Alexis don’t make it, I’ll be ticked. The third spot is up for grabs IMO. The ones I had high hopes for (Anoop, roughnecker, country boy)didn’t pull it off this week. As much as Tatiana irritates the crap out of me, I have to admit she can sing, But talk about high maitenance Drama Queen!

  3. Denise

I think you hit it pretty right on! Anoop is charming and I really like Danny. Alexis is so shocking she looks so meek and mild but when she opens her mouth WOW! The rest of the girls were extremely disappointing.

Ricky Braddy was pretty good too. He has a very smooth voice–not outstanding but extremely pleasent.

BTW Michael (roughneck) sang that Gavin DeGraw song that Bo Bice covered. I was really disappointed in him and Brent.

  4. Edie

Danny is my favorite. I tried to vote for him an hour after the show ended, and the line was busy. I don’t remember their names, but I voted for the first singer and the third, the blonde with the pink highlights. I thought the blonde was the best of all the girls, but I liked the first one too. She came out rocking, with a lot of energy.

  5. Cele

I voted for Danny and Alexis (she needs to dump the red lipstick though.)

Simon often calls a performance Karakoe (sp?) last night’s performances showed exactly what he meant. So many performances fell so short in delivering a persona. Why did they choose the songs they did? And why don’t they practice singing in front of a mirror? Really it would make it less painful for us.

I can’t predict the third slot for this week, but I think it would be between Anoop, Michael, Ricky, and Brent. The girls didn’t even come close… well Tatiana might but she gets on every one of my nerves.

  6. Ames

Anoop DOG! I love him, and Alexis and poor Michael WAS a fave..that was painful. I kinda don’t like how they’re eliminating this year 🙁

Edie…that was Jackie Tohn (love her name)…and I voted for her too. Really liked her. Her, Alexis, Danny and Anoop all got my vote last night. I posted a recap…and now I’m going to get my hair done! Later taters!

  7. Jaci Burton

I love Danny and Anoup, even though Anoup’s song was kind of meh. Alexis was the best girl.

Tatiana still gets on my last nerve, and I hate that she sings so well. I don’t care…she still gets on my last nerve. Dump her like toxic waste.

  8. Karin Tabke

    Jane, I agree 100%!

Margaret, I’ll be ticked too if Danny or Alexis don’t make the cut, and while I agree Tatiana can sing, I think I would end up shooting myself to end the misery of her personality. And I don’t want to die. 🙂

Denise, great minds, baby! And I was soooo hoping Michael would have given a stronger performance. I doubt he’ll get a second chance, though. 🙁

  9. Karin Tabke

Edie, I liked Jackie too! but um that outfit was bad. and so was the song choice. I think she missed her one shot.

Hey, Cele! I didn’t vote last night. Bad Karin! And is Simon not always right? Well, sometimes he’s wrong, but he is so tuned in, the other judges can be so, meh. I don’t think Tatiana will go through, unless Vote For the Worst picked her to vote for, then she’ll be back, and like you, she gets on my last nerve. that alone makes her unqualified to be the next American Idol!

Ames, I think Anoop will squeak through. I hope he does. But I too was sad to see Michael crash and burn. I couldn’t even watch that one little brunette, she was so bad.

Jaci, it’s now official, since Tatiana gets on Cele’s nerves, my nerves and your nerves she is no longer qulaified to be the next American Idol!

  10. LaDonna

Hey Karin, I saw half of it last night. Hubby had his Valentine present, The Unit- Season three, and was itching to get back to it. He’s got the sniffles so I caved. I get really excited when it’s down to the final ones, I remember more. 😆 Danny, though, is my absolute fav. He’s got the IT factor. The gal with the pink highlights was good too. And I like Anoop. That’s all I remember.

I missed something I think. Why are 36 performing? Are they doing it different this year?

  11. Karin Tabke

LaD get DVR! My guy loves the Unit too but AI trumps and he has to record!

They’re changing things up a bit this year. going with 36 then whittling down. They have them in three groups of 12, 3 make it from each group then a wild card. This method kind of bugs me. what if all the talent were in one group?

  12. Randy

I’ll be surprised if Tatiana DOESN’T make it through somehow…ratings, y’know! But, honestly, I thought she did a damned good job last night. Like Randy (hey, how confusing is that?? Randy’s commenting about Randy) said, when I heard her say she was gonna sing something from WHitney, I thought, “uh-oh. Kiss of death.” But, to tell you the truth, she really brought it. Or at least far better than usual for the AI contestants who aim for La Houston. As for the rest, I continue my inability to remember early round names. Um…I think I kinda liked the first 3 and then the last 1. And, wow….there were some HUGE GAPS in terms of talent between various singers last night. Yikes.

  13. Cele

Personally I like the wildcard system, those people who fall through the cracks get a second chance. And there have been some very memorable wildcards in the past…ie Jennifer Hudson and Kimberly Caldwell. Hopefully they digest their critiques and realize the opportunity given them and choose better song selections… that is the one factor that makes or breaks a real talent in this competition.

And yes, Vote for the Worse is backing Tatiana. Nasty little buggers, them. They thinks she’s fabulous, oh gawd shivers.

  14. Poppy

Except Alexis and Tatiana, I thought they were all pretty mediocre. Somewhere bad, others ok, but none sparkled. I don’t get the Danny thing. He’s boring.

  15. Poppy

    that’s “some were” not “somewhere”

  16. Kendra

I just had an east coast friend send me the results and I’m happy! Yes, Alexis needs lipstick to match her hair, not clash. Overall, 90% of the show last night was painful to watch. Judges, too. They don’t have it together yet. Kara disrupted the flow.

  17. Virna

I’mbummed about Anoop, thrilled about Tatiana, and sympathetic to the guy no one knows anything about but was still a really good singer. I want links to those minute spots!!

  18. Sophee Storm

I loved Stevie, but I did not get to see the show. I guess since no one is talking about her,she must not have done well. I felt like this group had a lot of favorites in it! I’ll be sad to see some of them go.

  19. Karin Tabke

I was bummed about Anoop too, but he still might make in as a wild card. And Tatiana? I was surprised she didn’t make the cut but glad she didn’t. And did everyone see how she boo-hooed the entire time? She couldn’t even join in with everyone else and sing. This may not be the last we see of her though…

Sophee, Stevie crashed and burned. 🙁 It was hard to watch.

  20. sarah

SOOO glad Danny made the cut! And I like the roughneck, too — I think it’s people’s stories that are so influencing this year.
