Unexpected Surprises!

May 19, 2011 | Karin's Blog | 6 comments

I’ve had a few good ones this last month.  Some personal, some professional and some happening to people I love.

Professionally, BLOOD LAW is doing well.  The first week it hit #5 on the Barnes and Noble trade romance list and # 8 on Borders’ trade romance list.  Week two, it hit # 4 on the Barnes and Noble trade romance list, # 18 on the Borders trade romance list and # 23 on Book Scan’s trade romance list.  The first week was a huge surprise, week two?  Wow, this book has legs!  I could not have done it without the support of so many of you.

Thank you for sticking with me. Thank you for your unwavering support, but mostly, thank you for your friendship.  Lists come and go, but friendships sustain us through the good times and the bad times.  I am truly blessed.

On the personal front, my son is kicking ass in bootcamp!  I knew he would do well, but there was always a part of me that worried he would be miserable.  And while he misses us terribly, he is thriving.  My youngest is a ‘tough nugget’ (his big sister’s description of him).  He’s a good man. The Corps is lucky he chose them.  He will do them proud.  He’s almost half way through boot, and his letters remain confident, upbeat and entertaining.

He mentions the struggles of some of the other recruits and the talks he has had with them, encouraging them not to give up, too keep moving forward, to persevere.  He reminds them that the quickest way out is Graduation.  As a mother, that makes me proudest.

I wanted to take a moment and pimp a very good fried of mine, Josie Brown.  Why? Well, one she’s my girl, and two, she just released her book, HOUSEWIFE ASSASSINS HANDBOOK. I’ve read this story and all I can say is, it is a must read!  Josie is so damn clever she gives me a complex!  I cannot say it loud enough:

GO. BUY. THIS. BOOK! YOU WILL THANK ME!

Seriously. Treat yourself to some fun.

Now, how about you?  What good things are happening in your neck of the woods?

Woot!! Congratulations on your book, great to have a book with legs!

Doesn’t it make you feel like all is good in the world, when a child does wonderful away from home? That’s when you realize that they do listen to parents on occassion. 🙂
Kudos to you for raising a fine young man!
Hope he continues learning and having a good time at bootcamp. Sounds like he’ll be a top ranking officer in no time.

Great thing for me right now is that I finally finished painting!! YAY!!
I do believe every room in my house is done….at last.
I was tired of the bland beigey (sp?) color through out the house. Now the house looks like a rainbow! LOL!

Also figured out how to work the new blu-ray player. Sheesh….there’s enough steps and buttons to press, you would think I was asking for some secret state papers. All I want to do is watch a movie!

Fired up the new smoker, loved it! Smoked ribs, smoked pork, smoked asparagus, you name it, I’ll try it. Oh yeah, I’m in heaven! Now I have neighbors hanging around, waiting for the dinner bell. 🙂

    Have a fantastic evening!

Nothing new here – I’m in a ‘no news is good news’ frame of mind about a couple of submissions I have out. Kudos to ya on the book that is truly awesome and couldn’t happen to a nicer gal (or a better writer!!)…and hugs to the kiddo – sounds like he’s a winner.

Congrat’s on your book and on raising such an awesome son. 🙂

Well, my life is not as exciting as yours. We’re working on trying to find my teen daughter a summer job, she’ll be 15 soon and want’s some summer spending money. My younger daughter has a 5th grade elementary graduation coming up, so that’s pretty exciting. She’ll be stepping into the world of a middle schooler. They grow up so fast, way to fast! 🙁
That’s pretty much it for me right now. Just trying to get everything done before summer hits and the girls are home.

Karin, you’re proof that if you persevere and keep writing kick-ass books, people will find them. A lot of people. And as for supporting you and being your friend, we’re just mirroring back what you do. Your son takes after you and Gary that way. 🙂

I’m almost finished with the first draft of my book. Yay!!! I’m eager to get another book out but that probably won’t be until July. My family is all doing well, and so are my books. It’s all good.

Congratulations on the awesome rankings for Blood Law. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. :grumble: dirty cliffhanger endings. :end grumble: And I’m so glad to hear your son is doing well in the military. He had good parents to raise him right. =o)

Nothing exciting to report over here. I still have a partial out on an older manuscript, but nothing’s brewing on the newest one. My daughter’s a week off of finishing high school and a few weeks out from college orientation. This fall I’ll have an empty nest. :sniffle:

Huge congrats on those lists. You so deserve it and more.

Hubby is up for a promotion, the “baby” starts kindergarten in the fall. Kid #3 will move up to middle school.

I’ve gotten a bit more writing done and even had the first chapter of my current wip critiqued thanks to an auction at Wright Hope. I even self published a short story.
